Cosme Herrera

Cosme Herrera is a Cuban sculptor born and raised in Havana, based in Austin, TX. He started out as a wood carver in the Havana area in late 1998. He began carving and exhibiting his first sculptures at the Malecón Art Fair. In 2004 his life changed when he immigrated to the United States with his family and his love for art took a backseat as he acclimated to his new life. It was not until 2014 that Cosme decided to experiment with Soap, a unique material, and it was then that he created his first soap sculpture “Ayúdame”. Although he was born out of necessity, this practice became his signature style and culminated in his iconic soap opera series. Fast forward to 2021, he got married and a year later they welcomed his baby girl. After his daughter’s birth, he was inspired to share his art with the world and created his professional Instagram account. 2022 helped him enter the gallery world by exhibiting his first miniature sculpture in 2022’s Far Away Places (online exhibition) at Las Laguna Art Gallery, Laguna Beach, California. 2023 the Collective Exhibition Firenze Contemporary at the Rossocinabro Gallery, in Rome, Italy. In May The Other Art Fair in Dallas TX USA. Art comes to life in August at ADC Fine Art, award finalist.
